Building Awards 2006

April, 2006

We are very pleased to be able to report that Davis Langdon triumphed at this year’s prestigious Building magazine awards when we took first place in the “Construction Consultant/Surveyor of the Year” category beating Atkins, Faber Maunsell, Cyril Sweett, Turner & Townsend and WSP Group at a ceremony held at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on April 4th 2006.

The firm was also one of just four firms shortlisted for a Constructing Excellence award, based on an evaluation of health and safety practices, product value, people policies, project collaboration, culture of continuous improvement and sustainability, with Taylor Woodrow pipping us to the post. In addition, Rob Smith was shortlisted as Construction Personality of the Year, with the winner being Sebastian Coe.

Launched in 1995, the Building Awards have become the industry benchmark for recognising leading edge, innovative and best practice organisations operating within the construction industry.

Commenting on the firm’s success, the judges said:
'New brand, new structure, same high-quality services. In its first year as a limited liability partnership, UK operating profit rose 89% to £25.5m with fee income up 18% to £106m. Davis Langdon also hired an extra 109 staff. They and the rest of the 1310-strong team have plenty to do: the partnership won 115 contracts in the year to 1 November 2005, for projects worth a total of £1.75bn...'

Davis Langdon’s work on ‘Project Horizon’ [picture nr. 2], the £75m renovation and refurbishment of five separate properties at the Norwich Union Headquarters in Norwich, was highlighted as physical evidence of its success with the judges commenting that we were 'basically indispensable'.

The firm was named Building magazine’s Project/Construction Manager of the Year in 2004 for its work on the City of Manchester Stadium and has been five times winner of Building magazine’s Surveyor of the Year.

This is the latest in a series of industry awards for us, having won recognition for our broad range of consultancy services worldwide, including being voted – for the 13th year in succession – 'Top International Construction Consultant' – in World Architecture’s annual poll. The firm was also recognised, for the second year, as one of the Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Companies to Work For’, climbing 14 places in 2006 and, in a similar award, came a close second in the 'Best Places to Work in IT 2006' by Computer Weekly, having won the award in 2005.
