Clarence Dock wins 'Waterways Renaissance Award'

March, 2005

A Davis Langdon project was commended at the ‘Oscars’ of the Waterways world.

Clarence Dock, Leeds - one of the largest developments in Leeds taking place right now – was recognized in the Design and Construction category of ‘The Waterways Renaissance Awards’ launched in July 2002 by The Waterways Trust and BURA (the British Urban Regeneration Association).

The Awards Ceremony - billed as the biggest night in the waterways calendar - was hosted by the television presenter John Craven OBE, with guest speaker the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP, Waterways Minister. 200 people from across the United Kingdom attended the prestigious Awards Ceremony at Madame Tussaud’s, London.

The Waterways Renaissance Awards - launched in July 2002 - recognise best practice in waterway regeneration throughout Great Britain and were judged by an expert panel under the chairmanship of Roger Hanbury, Chief Executive of The Waterways Trust. The Awards scheme - divided into eight categories - received an impressive range of nominations from a mix of public, private, community and voluntary organisations.

Clarence Dock – a mixed-use scheme that is revitalizing a 15-acre brownfield site immediately adjacent to the River Aire and close to Leeds city centre - comprises office space, residential, hotel, leisure, exhibition and retail with car parking.  Davis Langdon’s Leeds office has been working as Cost Consultant since 1999, from the early site wide remediation scheme prior to the main works commencing, through to the phased incorporation of the individual blocks.  Completion is expected in 2007.

“We have been able to add value to the project by utilising our key specialist personnel from Davis Langdon’s dedicated knowledge and business sectors,” comments Duncan Sissons, Leeds Partner.”This, coupled with our unrivalled in-house database and our ability to put the right person on the right element of the project, has afforded the client a better assured risk enabling more assured decision making.”
