Consultancy Scores Hat Trick at APM Awards

November, 2007

Davis Langdon is congratulating three of its employees following their success at last week’s prestigious APM Awards dinner held at The Brewery in London.

The firm scooped three awards including the Sir Monty Finniston Award for lifetime achievement going to Tim Carter; Young Project Manager of the Year being awarded to Jimmy Zammer; and the Geoffrey Trimble Award for the best Master’s level dissertation going to Simon Burke.

Tim Carter’s 40 year career with Davis Langdon started in 1968 as a quantity surveyor Partner in the firm’s Chester office and he has since worked continuously on an impressive range of complex programmes and celebrated projects including Number 1 Poultry and the Eden Project in Cornwall.  As well as being an inspirational mentor to clients, project teams and fellow project managers, he played a key role in the development of the APM itself, acting as a former chairman.  Tim played a crucial role in helping to transform Davis Langdon from a principally quantity surveying firm to an industry-respected project and cost consultancy.

Tim Smit, CEO of the Eden Project described Tim Carter as “…an honourable man of huge integrity, quiet personal charm and an ambition to show off not just the professionalism of the construction and project management industries, but to show the joy that construction at its finest can bring both to those engaged in it and for the end user”.

Young Project Manager of the Year, Jimmy Zammar won his award based on his work on the new British Council offices in Khartoum, Sudan and subsequently the HSBC HQ fit out project in Dubai.

David Codling, Director of the British Council in Sudan said, “Jimmy Zammar has provided us with invaluable management, guidance and advice.  Jimmy combines formidable organisational skills with creative and critical thinking and an acute sensibility for communications between cultures.  It has been a privilege as well as a pleasure to work with him.”

Simon Burke won the Geoffrey Trimble Award for his dissertation entitled “Using Extranets to collaborate” in which he tackled the issue of how project extranets impact on project successes, particularly in terms of promoting collaborative working.  Through questionnaires, interviews and focus groups, Burke sought to establish definitions and an understanding of proven and potential benefits which could be used for further research and industry decision making.
This is the latest in a series of prestigious industry awards for Davis Langdon, having won recognition for its broad range of consultancy services worldwide, including “Consultant of the Year” at the 2006 and 2007 Building awards. They have also been voted – for the 14th year in succession – “Top International Construction Consultant” – in World Architecture’s annual poll. Most recently, Davis Langdon was recognised, for the third year in succession, as one of the Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Companies to Work For’, climbing to 29th position in 2007.  It has previously been five times winner of Building magazine’s Surveyor of the Year and was named Building magazine’s Project/Construction Manager of the Year in 2004.
