AECOM’s Davis Langdon sees two projects win prestigious BCO awards

October, 2011

Central St Giles recognised as Best of the Best while the Angel Building wins the Refurbished / Recycled Workplace Award

LONDON – Global construction consultancy Davis Langdon, an AECOM company, is celebrating after two of its projects were recognised at the 2011 British Council for Offices (BCO) Awards ceremony. Legal & General Property and Mitsubishi Estate Company’s Central Saint Giles was awarded the overall top prize - Best of the Best – on the night. The Renzo Piano designed building also won the Commercial Workplace category with the judges highlighting this project as a "testament to what can be achieved with a little courage in design."

Derwent London’s Angel Building won the National Refurbished / Recycled Award which follows up it being shortlisted for the Stirling Prize. Designed by architects Alfred Hall Monaghan Morris, the Angel is “a testament to Derwent London’s boldness in taking on the ugly and unloved 1980’s monster which sat previously on the site.” The architect brought life back to an old neglected central courtyard by converting it into a stunning atrium, while the façade has been pulled forward to the street line creating the appearance of new build office block.

Head of Offices Iain Parker commented: “After Davis Langdon’s association with Stirling Prize success, it is fantastic to see that our projects continue to be recognised as best in class within industry awards. Both Central Saint Giles and Angel deserved their success at this year's BCO awards as they stand out as being both exciting additions to London's built environment, along with being brave in their approach to create something slightly different to the norm. The delivery of these projects in their respective locations and ability to be let quickly in a tough market is testament to the vision of their respective developers and architects, and we are proud to have played such a key role in the success of both.”

Davis Langdon is a strong supporter of the BCO and this year it sponsored the inaugural Test of Time Award which recognises projects for efficiency & value over a period of time. This year’s winner was Skyway's House in Liverpool, previously the 2006 winner of the Refurbished / Recycled Award and home of Shop Direct Home Shopping Limited. The 1939 airport hangar has been commended by its occupiers as a building which has "radically improved" business.
