As of 6th April the new regime of Energy Performance Certificates (EPC’s) became operational and although the world outside the window looks the same, we should be in no doubt that a wind of change has started to blow. All that remains to be seen is the strength of its force in the years to come.
There is already a commonplace view that the EPC is just another administrative hurdle to overcome in the completion of a project. We believe, however, the view should be longer-term and that in an era of escalating energy costs, a building’s performance will become one of the most important factors in future-proofing a project. That is to optimise its useful life and perceived value and to defer the onset of obsolescence.
