This commission was to review the strategic and operational function of Genesis’ development team and to make recommendations for improved performance within the team as well as having a positive influence on other departments.
Key activities included, process and stakeholder mapping, performance reviews, one to one interviews and workshops to identify communication barriers and ‘bottlenecks within the organisation.
The management consulting team produced a suite of performance management tools in the form of a working document / tool guide to enable the translation of Genesis’ vision and strategy into a coherent set of performance measures. These included the following:-
The Balanced Scorecard
This provides a framework to transform strategy into operational terms and key performance measures through four perspectives: Financial, Internal Business Processes, Learning and Growth, Customers. Each perspective is considered in terms of Objectives, Measures, Targets and Initiatives, to form a holistic performance management system.
The Strategy Map model
An extension of the ‘Balanced Scorecard’ that examines value-adding processes in the context of strategic initiatives. It enables users to map value-based strategies in order to improve communication. The Processes are mapped against four key perspectives: Financial, Customer, Internal, Learning and Growth. Emphasis is placed upon issues such as Long-term Value, Customer Value Propositions, Operations Management and Human Capital and their consolidation into a ‘route-map’.
