The vision behind the project was the need for the College to raise both its physical presence and profile in New Cross and its profile as a leader in Visual Arts.
The project comprises the creation of a new seven storey flagship structure that raises the College’s profile as a centre of excellence for Visual Arts and represents the College’s “public face” at the New Cross campus. The project was also a key piece of the College’s overall Masterplan for New Cross campus.
The new £5.9 million building provides purpose built teaching space and includes art studios, lecture theatres, state of the art psychology and digital media laboratories and associated office and social accommodation.
One of the keys to the projects was the creation of facades that reflected the College’s aspirations and vision for the building and the final design was an economic solution that exceeded the College’s expectations. The building is now a well know landmark around New Cross.
The project was completed on time and within budget and was opened for the 2005 academic year. Its creation was a catalyst for the College’s on-going Masterplan and has now enabled other parts of the New Cross campus to be refurbished.
We continue to have an on-going relationship with Goldsmith’s College and have advised on the viability of several other feasibility studies.
