The Systems Biology Institute is to be at the forefront of Stem Cell research.
A state of the art facility to accommodate cutting edge research.
The project was delivered on programme and on budget.

Located in the centre of Cambridge, the guiding principle for this project was to create a suitable environment for a relatively new science for the University of Cambridge.

The intention is for the Systems Biology Institute to be at the forefront of Stem Cell research, providing world class facilities to reflect the eminent level of activities being carried out within.

Due to the level of apparent funding at the inception of the project, it was envisaged that the existing building forming part of the institute of Biology (IoB) along Tennis Court Road in Cambridge, would undergo relatively minor refurbishment, in order to provide the new facility.  It later transpired that this would not be sufficient to accommodate the necessary facilities and provide for the level of ground-breaking research that was intended for the scheme.  As a result, the designers were commissioned to develop a revised proposal commensurate with the available funding.

The new brief was to provide a state of the art facility to accommodate cutting edge research. This would assist the department with their goal of attracting an eminent Scientist in the field to act in the capacity of project champion.

The scheme consisted of the development of the design for, and the refurbishment of the Systems Biology Institute.  The building had become vacant following departments within the existing building moving to other premises around the University.

Davis Langdon were appointed to provide a total Project Management service from managing the second stage of the procurement process to occupation by the client and beyond.  Specific duties included client representation, overall cost control, risk and value management, management of the project team, procurement advice, quality monitoring and contract administration role.

The Systems Biology Institute was completed in September 2006 and following a successful handover is now being fully utilised by the building occupants. The project was delivered on programme and on budget.
