LONDON, 31 May 2012 - Global construction and property consultancy Davis Langdon, an AECOM company, is celebrating the completion of the transformation of Jubilee Gardens on London’s South Bank.  Davis Langdon has been involved with the £5 million regeneration project for over 15 years, providing cost management and employers’ agent services. 

Working closely with the designers, Dutch landscape architects West 8, Frosts Landscape Construction Ltd and the Jubilee Gardens Project Board comprising Lambeth Council, Southbank Centre, the Jubilee Gardens Trust and Transport for London, Davis Langdon has helped ensure the successful completion of the project on time and on budget for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. The contract was jointly managed by South Bank Employers’ Group and the Council.

Dull and uninspiring gardens have been transformed into a well-designed urban park with extensive soft and hard landscaping features such as soft berms, lush planting, plentiful trees and curved granite pathways which incorporate seating, as well as a new playground.

“The transformed Jubilee Gardens adds a wonderful public space for local residents as well as millions of visitors,” commented Vincent Kane, head of culture for Davis Langdon. “Its completion in time for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is testament to the commitment of the entire project team: they navigated obstacles such as the really difficult weather since construction began last autumn, with the wettest April in 100 years.”

The original 13,700 square meter site was a central feature of the Festival of Britain in 1951 and in 1977 the gardens were developed to commemorate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.
